A person who is infected from coronavirus has high chances of nervous system damage, based on the recent studies by the scientists. The research that is published in the Annals of Neurology journal states that around half of the patients who were suffering from COVID-19 displayed neurological symptoms like dizziness, finding hard to concentrate, seizures, weakness, headaches, low alertness, difficulty in tasting and smelling things, strokes, and muscle pain.
The lead author of the research paper, Igor Koralnik, made the statement that it is very important for the physicians and people to know that the SARS-COV-2 infection can lead to some of the neurological problems at the initial stage before any other respiratory disorders, fever, or cough may arise.
In the study that is published the scientists have described about the various neurological conditions that may arise in the patients affected from COVID-19, and have also explained how it can be diagnosed along with the pathogenic mechanisms. Koralnik has a strong belief that understanding about the things is the key for proper treatment and clinical management. He further added that there are several ways in which COVID-19 might lead to neurological dysfunction.
Based on the study, the disease has the probability to affect the entire nervous system, which includes the spinal cord, muscles, brain, and nerves. It was also noted by the researchers that a COVID-19 patient’s brain might lack oxygen or suffer from clotting which can further lead to strokes.
The scientists have added that inflammation can be caused due to the reaction of the immune system to the virus infection which can ultimately lead to brain and nerve damage. As the information about COVID-19 on the neurological system is partial, the researchers plan to observe some of the patients to conclude whether the neurological issues are on temporary basis or are permanent.
Market Research Store has published the report on the global neurological diagnostic equipment market which showcases the growth of the market in the coming years owing to increase in patients suffering from neurological disorders.
