Malmö University developers have created an app that can help track fitness at home by hospital out-patients. This is a free app that can help lower the number of appointments high risk groups have to attend. The app named “Timed Walk” has been created by the lead researcher Dario Salvi. The app is anticipated to become popular at the time of the corona pandemic. The researcher developed an interest toward making a fitness app after working on technology development and mobile health at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of the University of Oxford. A cardiologist had asked Salvi to develop the app.
Usually a 6-minute walk is suggested by the medical professionals to the patients dealing with certain medical conditions in order to measure their fitness. The back and forth walking helps understand the fitness by measuring the meters covered. The app has made taking the test easier and when required. Additionally, there is no need to even visit the hospital and instead perform the test near their home. The app can help lower the number of patients visiting the hospital during the corona pandemic. The researcher advanced the app compared to the one he created when in Oxford after looking at the urgency shown by the hospitals and pharmaceutical companies.
The new version will not only be free but also be released via Internet of Things and People (IOTAP).The algorithms released were also kept free in order to permit others to develop. This new remote solution is likely to gather popularity in the coming years by proving its excellence in sharing information from the doctor and also making the test easier. The development of a platform for mobile-based health research named Mobi study took place in Oxford. This platform functions as a test bed for different technologies used in healthcare.
