The burgeoning issue of plastic pollution has initiated a heated debate among different demographics of society. Thewidespread continuous production of disposable plastic items overwhelms the world's ability to deal with the same. The plastic trash is not only accumulating in the environment but has also been penetrating the food chain after ineffective degradation. The consumption of plastic-contaminated food itemscauses tremendous damage to humans in aspects of health and wellness.

Various campaigns and programs are being organized by governmentsfor recycling plastic trash to preventthe incorporation of hazardousmicroplasticsin food chains andto reuse those plastic products in either same or revamped form.However, recycling plasticitems usually deteriorates their face values in terms of effectiveness and price.Although degrading plastic using chemical methods can maintain the qualities, it is not an economic solution, especially for developing countries. Hence,researchersdiscovered an alternative, in which this trash can be processed toproduce fuel for jets.

A team of researchers at Washington State University formulated an experiment, in which they used polythene as a raw material. The commonly available polythene trash includes milk bags, shampoo bottles, and many more. By usinga specific amount of carbon catalyst along with some other chemicals and by adjusting an optimum temperature of the reservoir for a certain time, the team was successful in converting carbon by-products into precious fuel. The batch processing of plastic trash was completed within an hour at a temperature of 200°C. Before conducting this experiment, the scientists were unawareof the outcome. Later,the team accepted it as a magnificentachievement. Researchers including Jim Pfaendtner and Hongfei Lin from Washington State University found this approach as a foundation stone in the profitable transfiguration of the trash along with the remarkable evolution of industrial science.
