Evidence of a new strain of swine flu, which may lead to another pandemic hit, has been found by group of researchers associated with a host of institutions in China and one in the U.S. The paper is published in the National Academy of Sciences where the researchers have described about their testing on the pigs and the people around them in China.

Worldwide, the news about a new strain of swine being found by the researchers has been spread via media. There are chances of a new influenza pandemic hit as still the world is struggling to overcome from the coronavirus pandemic. The reports by the media might be overstated as the researchers have stated that the new strain has not shown the transmission from human to human, which is a basic requirement for a pandemic. The new strain that is found is called G4 EA H1N1.

The medical workers regularly check and test the domestic swine for viruses in order to prevent danger of humans getting affected. In the paper, the researchers centered on the testing between the years 2011 and 2018, the period where 179 swine flu strains were found. It was found that the infection rate in the swine has been increasing rapidly since 2016 and the common strain that is found in swine is G4.

It was also found by the researchers that the G4 strain consists of DNA from the H1N1 strain that occurred at 2009. There were findings that G4 strain has jumped to humans – two people were diagnosed having this infection and there were 10% of people exposed to infected swine which had G4 antibodies. There is a fear that G4 strain may evolve till a point that they might transfer from person to person, which rise the possibility of pandemic.

The first precautionary step has been started in China and the researchers will closely observing the virus along with the task of developing the vaccine before its requirement.
