The University of Bath researchers have recently conducted an experiment that shows how cannabis has the ability to change over time after consumption by increasing strength among consumer which is expected to put the latter at a greater risk of harm. The research was conducted around a 50 year old street cannabis and testing its effect on the human anatomy which finally pertained to the mentioned results. The team proceeded to regulate and crawl through a dataset of over 80,000 samples of cannabis that were tested in the last 50 years from the streets of USA, UK, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Italy, and New Zealand.
The research was based on investigating how concentrations of THC (The intoxicating substance among cannabis that gives the consumed user a form of “high”) changed over time in various forms of cannabis. The team quotes that the concentration of THC increased over 14% in the herbal form of cannabis. The reason that the team found for the increased version of THC was due to a rising market share for a stronger variant of cannabis among users that incorporates a stronger variety of sinsemilla which contains lesser seeds and low amount of THC.
The team previously suggested that there is enough evidence suggesting thata regulated amount of cannabis with higher levels of THC can lead to increased risk of addiction and psychiatric disorders. The team also quotes that an increase in24% of THC was found in cannabis resin, which is typically strong than the previous forms of cannabis. The team also focused their attention on cannabidiol or CBD as it may have the potential causation for helping people quit cannabis without the side-effects of the latter. No contrast of changes in CBD in cannabis was found during the duration of the time. The team concludes that lower amounts of THC with equal quantities of CBD is less harmful than a combination of its counterpart.
