A major change has been updated by the American Cancer Society (ACS) regarding the guidelines on cancer prevention and reduction mentioning that for improved results it is better to stop the consumption of alcohol completely.

The ACS has mentioned the new guideline as “It is best not to drink alcohol.”

In the previous version, the society had given the leniency of limited alcohol consumption, i.e., women can have one drink in a day and men cannot have more than two drinks. The drink can be quantified as 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits, 5 ounces of wine, or 12 ounces of regular beer. It can be hard but for those who cannot totally avoid alcohol are still recommended with these amounts.

In the U.S., the ACS predicts that the alcohol consumption accounts for 4 percent of the cancer deaths and 6 percent of the cancers. Based on the ACS research, reducing or eliminating alcohol along with tobacco consumption and avoiding being overweight are the factors that can reduce or prevent the risk of cancer.

Other factors that matter are increase in the physical activity, that is, being more active, minimize eating red meat along with less processed food prove beneficial. The ACS has now although recommended that it is best to completely cut eating red meat, processed meat, and sugar-sweetened beverages from one’s diet.

The ACS had earlier recommended that adults should do at least 150 min of moderate-intensity physical activity, which can be substituted by 75 min of vigorous-intensity physical activity each week.

Now, it has been updated that adults should take on 150-300 min of moderate-intensity physical activity or 75-150 min of vigorous-intensity physical activity per week.
The new guidelines have been reportedly updated the first time in eight years.
