According to specialists, it is recommended to elderly people with dementia to restrict their medication as it can harm their brain and central nervous system (CNS).Consuming several medications at a time can lead to severe outcomes for an individual.Recent research suggests that almost 1 in every 7 elderly people who face dementia consume three or more tablets at a timewithout any proper nursing. According to research,healthcare professionals have prescribed medications to over 1.2Million patients with dementia.

It was evident from the study that elderly people age 65 Years or above should not consume three or more medicines at a time. Such drugs sometimes increase the risks of severe injury or even death in rare cases. This phenomenon is mostly seen in people dealing with dementia who take numerous medications to cope with their emerging symptoms.

The research revealed that one among seven people suffering from dementia consumes three or more medicines for their brain CNS even though they are advised not to do so.Although the United States government has restricted the supply of such medicines to hospitals and nursing homes, there isneither anyguideline to regulate the people living at homes nor do theyvisit proper nursing homes. The research also focused on the patients, who choose to stay at home rather than in nursing homes.

Dr. Donovan Maust, a geriatric psychiatrist from the University of Michigan (UM), explained the reason why a patient resorts to taking too many medications. This disease leads to a lot of psychological issues with patients, it affects the sleep cycle, causes depression, and anxietyamong patients,which ultimately results in seeking relief from the medications and thus, they resort to several medications despite knowing its adverse effects.
