Technology has changed everything; it has made the world a lot better and advanced. Today, we might be a lot closer in the development of a bionic man. It will not just remain any sci-fi plotline but will become reality.
Scientists have taken a lot of efforts in creating artificial eye that will work same as a human eye. This artificial eye will be used in providing vision for the humanoid robots. Furthermore, the researches state that there are chances that in the future this bionic eye could be used as an alternative for those who are visually impaired.
A group of researchers from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology developed the ElectroChemical Eye, which is also known as EC-eye. They claim that it is similar to a human biological eye in terms of shape and size but its potential is far better.
The EC-eye makes use of lens to focus the light onto the dense array of nano wires that are light sensitive. This mimics the human eye retina and iris. The information is passed with the help of the wires to a computer for further processing. The wires act as the brain’s visual cortex.
Researchers have summarized in their research paper that biological eyes are the important sensing organ of any living animal as more than eighty percent of the information that we gather about our surrounding is through the eyes. The research study is published in the Nature.
Zhiyong Fan, engineer and materials scientist, the co-author of the paper further commented that the EC-eye can be used for better vision prostheses and humanoid robotics in the coming years.
The robotic eye has the ability to see the dim light same as human eyes and it can register the changes in the lighting a bit faster.
Market Research Store has published the report on the robotic prosthetics market which states that the industry will see advance developments in the coming years owing to artificial intelligence.
