The University of Missouri- Columbia researchers have recently understated the possible reasons for male vulnerabilities that can form in the wombas the research team haslearnt the specific component in a specific maternal dietary supplementary that is called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The research team further pertains that DHA is expected to present a guarding function that protects against the impacts of maternal stress on an unborn fetus that can lead to further excessive stress that gets developed onto a future life cycle. Neurodevelopmental disorders pertaining to autism and schizophrenia have the ability to disproportionately affect males that are often caused by maternal stress during the early development of fetus.
Earlier versions of the study have linked the absence of nutritional elements that leads to the following hypothesis that was underlined by the research team. The team notes that certain metabolic differences among male and female embryos react in a different format than each other during their period of the first trimester. The team conducted their findings based on a grouping of around 40 mice into four different groups. The first group received a standard diet and were not exposed to any form of early prenatal stress (EPS) while group 2 was fed a steady diet while being exposed to EPS. The third group got a modified diet with supplementary DHA while not being exposed to EPS while the final group got the same diet as the latter while being exposed to EPS. The team further analyzed the embryos and placentas at 12.5 days of gestation and found evidence of prenatal distress with decreased placenta and embryo weight gains in the male embryos while no such evidence was found in the female embryos.
