Microrobots are the new technology that the researchers are planning to have included in treating gastric wounds. This new concept has already been published in the journal Biofabrication. The Chinese researchers combined microrobots with the new concept of "in situ in vivo bioprinting" for tissue repairing inside the body. The current study is anticipated to open new door in the field of bioprinting. Enticingly, Professor Tao Xu from Tsinghua University has stated that the common issue of gastric wall injury is found to exist among 12% of the people across the globe and the severity of the digestive tract problem is found to vary individual to individual. But, the bioprinting that is the transfer of new cells to the wounded site is likely to increase the potential of healing.

Major hurdle the bioprinting technology is facing is that it focuses primarily on the external site. And the existing bioprinters are huge and something that cannot be used for the inner tissue repair. Thus, the existing bioprinters are invasive and have less room for printing operation. It is to overcome this issue that the microrobot comes into play as they enter the body through endoscope to carry out the inner tissue repair in the body.

Additionally, the robot named Delta robot with a moving platform, fixed base, and three similar kinematic chains has been developed by the team to healing easier and faster inside the body. This new microrobot is minimally-invasive and flexible such that it can enter the body and start the bioprinting operation. The promising results of the device in printing cells are the reason for it being verified as a treatment for gastric wall injuries. However, the study on lowering the bioprinting platform and making of bioinks is still on as the researchers want to create an effective device in the coming years.
