It has been found that the CD2AP gene probably plays an important role in enhancing Alzheimer’s disease vulnerability. A team from Baylor College of Medicine has used mice, fruit flies, and human brains to find the CD2AP gene’ involvement in synaptic spread, which is ameans neuronsuse to interact. Similarly, the team found CD2AP to have an impact on neuronal communication by measuring the levels of important regulatory proteins present at neuron terminals synapses. This study published in the journal Cell Reports the effects of deleting the human CD2AP gene on thesynapse function and structure.

Researchers carried out their study on fruit flies in which they deleted the cindr gene which is similar to that of the human CD2AP gene. The deletion of this gene showed a signs of defective synapse function and structure. They found the accumulation of specific protein in the synapses of mutant flies which had control over neural communication. The researchers thus stated that in the Alzheimer’s disease the CD2AP gene was obliterated and there occurred changes to the structure of the brain.

On a similar note, a study showed that dementia gene is associated withneural connections in brain. In the Alzheimer’s disease patient, the brain tissue showed the protein “clusterin”to accumulatein important parts of neurons that link’s cells and damage these links. Thus, the studies like this are anticipated to hasten the search for a new treatment. The accumulation of dementia is the major reason behind the onset of symptoms of dementia. There were presences of clusters of amyloid beta in the synapses as well, which is the protein that is detectedto damage the brains of patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
