The American Institute of Physics recently published their study focusing on completely harnessing the potential of sunlight by integrating apair of metal halide perovskites with conventional silicon that will lead to a more viable form of solar collecting component to increase the ability of collecting energy at an astounding 26% of its counterpart. The team notes that this method can increase the efficiency limit of using silicon cells alone as perovskites fulfil all the optoelectronic electronics for a photovoltaic cell and this newly produced material can even be formed into the current method of production of silicon cells.

The team based their hypothesis in order to completely harness the potential of the sunlight which they quote as the world’s most abundant energy resource. The scientific community across the world has been trying to harness the latter strength for decades as sunlight have been considered as the most practical amount of renewable source of energy due to its unlimited nature. The team identified perovskites as the perfect “partner” to go with silicon. From a material point of view, the accompanying features of the latter make the perfect plug and are supplementary to the current silicon format of technology.

The team further published their findings that their current record of 29.52% increased efficiency over its counterpart can further be achieved at an increased higher rate of efficiency with increased testing and development theories. The increased power output of the perovskites-silicon based can also help in tandem to decrease the carbon footprint that can give rise to large scaled production measures at the Brandenburg factory of Germany. The team further noted that the people mustunderst and the huge implications of their currently produced technology in order to boost the installation of solar based solutions.
