Plasma treatment is being considered for treating coronavirus infection and the researchers are busy studying its impact in the COVID-19 treatment. And from the research, they have come to the conclusion that plasma from men is more beneficial.
Men who were infected from the coronavirus are being insisted more to donate plasma from their blood so that the researchers can study further about it for the treatment of COVID-19.
Some of the studies conducted propose that COVID-19 patients that were registered, in that, it was men who were reported to be seriously ill and thus they were producing increased levels of antibodies than women. This indicated that blood plasma from the men could be more effective in saving lives of people.
In case, if the trials of using the plasma for treating the COVID-19 patients prove successful then further steps can be implemented said NHS Blood and Transplant.
NHS Blood and Transplant had already started calling for the COVID survivors to donate their blood and plasma from the month of April and about 600 people had donated their plasma by mid of May.
It was observed from the donations that the plasma from the men had 43% of increased levels of antibodies which could be used further for trials as compared to women.
Some other patients also reported high antibody levels including Asian patients, older peoples, and the patients who were already treated for the coronavirus infection.
The associate director for blood donation, NHS Blood and Transplant, Prof David Roberts said that they are ready to hear from anybody who had coronavirus symptoms or the infection itself. They are in need for more plasma donors.
