Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, has made the statement that more research is required in order to better understand till what extent a person can spread COVID-19 who doesn’t show any symptoms of the virus infection.
The WHO chief in a virtual press conference made the statement that from early February they were suggesting that asymptomatic people have the probability to transmit COVID-19, but they need to research more to establish the extent of asymptomatic transmission.
He further added that, “that research is ongoing, and we're seeing more and more research being done.” He also said that globally a lot of research has been taking place and many things have been known about this novel virus but still there is a lot to know more.
As and when new information about the virus will be obtained WHO will be updating about it along with their suggestions. The most vital way of stopping the transmission is to find, isolate, and test for the virus infection. It is also important to trace and quarantine the contacts of the person. By using this method many of the countries were able to suppress the virus transmission.
In the meantime, the executive director of WHO Health Emergencies Program, Michael Ryan, made a crucial statement that the COVID-19 is still evolving and this is proven by the increasing number of patients in many parts of the world. He further added that in many countries the health systems are struggling with the situation and they require our support and solidarity.
He further said, "each and every country has a different combination of risks and opportunities, and it's really down to national authorities to carefully consider where they are in the pandemic."
