New rings that can generate temperature data to help to detect COVID-19 patients even if there are no signs of any symptoms are on the way to commercialize. The wearable technology helps query the body directly. The researchers used the Oura Ring made by a startup named Oura. This wearable sensor could be easily paired with mobile app. The ring measures sleep, wakefulness, respiratory rates, heart rates, and temperature. The biomonitoring data are much reliable nowadays. However, the data obtained from no-touch thermometers are limited and thus, here is where the ring is expected to make temperature assessment easier and faster.
Along with the temperature, the ring also detected low heart-rate variability, high respiration rate, and high heart rate. The new technology can thus make diagnosis earlier and isolation sooner in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.
