A new study reveals that there is no significant influence or impact on driving ability after CBD-infused marijuana smoking. However, the study also showed that there is no impact on vital signs in spite of the fact that all the participants in the study surpassed the legal limit for THC in the blood.

For the pilot study undertaken in Switzerland, around 33 people in this study were given a joint containing either 500 mg of CBD marijuana or 500 mg of placebo containing a nicotine-free and cannabinoid-free herbal mixture with a hemp aroma – Knaster Hemp along with 500mg of tobacco. However, researchers later used multiple common DUI tests.

Smoking CBD-Rich Marijuana Poses ‘No Significant Impact’ On Vital Signs And Driving Ability

The Swiss market for CBD products burst in recent years, and the authors showed their interest in investigating the efficacy of smoking CBD-rich tobacco products and their significant impact on driving.

As per the researchers from the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Bern, “The purpose of the current study was to inform recommendations for warnings on tobacco substitute products containing CBD-rich marijuana and to provide information for drivers regarding the possible risks of consuming CBD-rich marijuana.”

“To the best of our knowledge, the current study is one of the first to investigate the potential impact of smoking CBD-rich marijuana for road safety,” they said.

The output of the test highlighted no significant differences between the impact of smoking CBD-rich marijuana and placebo on reaction time, behavior under stress, motor time, and concentration performance.

However, in order to confirm whether or not the participants were above the legal limit while driving with THC in their system, blood samples were taken both after smoking and the completion of their test to investigate the concentration of cannabidiol in THC-metabolites, THC, and CBD.

Some 14 women and 19 men were part of the study aged between 19 and 31, flipped the coin to decide who will have a joint of CBD rich placebo or marijuana. Further, when the participants were tested the second time in the time duration of 7 to 14 days, those who smoked placebo on the first day were given marijuana joints and vice versa.

However, after the statistical analysis, few groups were distinguished from the first trial versus the second trial, women versus men, and CBD versus placebo consumption.

However, in spite of the fact that the blood test reveals all the participants had a THC level in the body above the legal limit, there are no significant changes in mood, orientation, behavior, language, and psychomotor skills. Therefore, the researchers concluded that there was no impact on people after consuming CBD-rich marijuana on vital signs.

But in spite of no impact on vital signs after smoking CBD-rich marijuana, researchers never recommend consumer drive after smoking CBD-rich marijuana or related products.
