Synairgen developed “SNG001” which is a formulation made using a protein named interferon beta. It is a protein produced by the body at the time of a viral infection.
This SNG001 formulation can be inhaled directly into the lungs of coronavirus patients through a nebulizer in order to activate an immune response. This new research will help explore the path of respiratory drug discoveries. The novel formulation has shown to have reduced the need for ventilation during the clinical trials in the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infected patients. Thus, the trial results of SNG001 in reducing one of the main symptoms that is breathlessness is believed to progress the potential COVID-19 treatment as soon as possible. The positivity of the new protein in reducing hospital duration is affirmed to make interferon beta a widely popular IV drug that will help stimulate the lungs’ immune response.
