Google Inc., is now spreading its popularity in the video conferencing applications. It has made its Meet app free for all the users and it has the provision to connect with 100 people simultaneously.
Previously, this application was just for the paid GSuite enterprise users.
Smita Hashim, Director, Product Management of Google Cloud, stated that it was for the first time that a product whose purpose was for enterprise use is being extended to the individual users.
The outbreak of the pandemic, COVID-19, has made all the video conference applications like Zoom popular among the users for business meetings as well as for social chats.
In the beginning of this week, Facebook had also introduced its Messenger Rooms application to the users in which 50 people could join the call at the same time.
Since video conferencing is gaining huge popularity among the people, Google took this as an opportunity and extended its Meet app to the individual users.
Smita Hashim further added that “We've already seen how Google Meet has been helping a lot of businesses and schools. We kept seeing the need for a very secure as well as easy-to-use, high-quality service for individual users as well. These apps are being used in ways which are unprecedented right now…”
Since January, Google tracked that Meet’s daily usage has increased by 30 times. Around 3million new users have been added. In the last week Meet’s daily participants surpassed 100 million.
The features included in the Meet app are streaming, recording, in-person meetings, and improved safety controls. Google is further developing additional features to make the users view more people during conversations.
Comments from Hashim stated that Google Meet will be different from other video conferencing apps as it is highly secured and already has billions of Google accounts.
The latest report published by the Market Research Store on the global video conferencing software states that the popularity of these applications will increase in the forecast period. The application will not be just restricted to business purpose but will be used in tele-health, retail, and education.
