Dr. Anthony Fauci, world’s best infectious disease expert, has made the statement that the US government has decided to fund and perform primary studies on the three investigational coronavirus vaccines.

In the Phase 3 trials there is an involvement of thousands of people in order to check whether the vaccine is safe and effective to use further. In the month of July, the testing of the vaccine by Moderna will start, then in the month of August Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, and then later in the month of September vaccine from the Johnson & Johnson will be tested.

The Wall Street Journal was first to report about the funding and trial timing. Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Fauci, said that, "the coronavirus vaccine effort is progressing very well and we expect more than one candidate vaccine to be in advanced clinical testing by early summer. This is good news for the overall coronavirus vaccine effort."

Other coronavirus vaccines that are currently in the development phase also have chances for the Phase 3 trials as per plans by the US government. As per data from the World Health Organization, there 126 vaccines in the development phase and 10 vaccines are right now in human trials.

Fauci added that decision for the funding was from the Department of Health and Human Services coupled with consultation from the National Institute of Health and some other institutions. He commented that testing plans are still on track and as suggested in the past there will be at least one vaccine coming in the market by end of this year or earliest by the beginning of next year. He has predicted that there might more than one winner in the vaccination race.
