LBS are information services that use real-time geographical data from a mobile device to provide security services, information, and entertainment. There are two types of LBS: Indoor LBS and Outdoor LBS. Indoor LBS is a positioning technology which is used inside hospitals, retail stores, office building, shopping malls, banks and financial institutions, convention center, and university campus. It is confined to a limited geographical area, hence it uses wireless networks such as WLAN and Wi-Fi that covers a smaller area. Indoor LBS requires high accuracy to locate the position of the object. Therefore, it uses positioning technologies based on WLAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AGPS, MEMS, UWB, and other hybrid technologies. Enterprises use indoor LBS to increase consumer engagement and enhance the experience of customers. Indoor LBS have made the day-to-day life of a consumer easier by providing assistance with a large number of applications with many benefits, at an economical cost. It also helps enterprises to manage day to day operations in effective and efficient manner.
